Seyar Walizada became the winner of the first singing Super
Star festival held by Tolo TV, a private Afghan TV channel, on Friday
night
Out of the 60 competitors, 12 of them were chosen as the best singers to compete, of whom Walizada won the title ‘Super Star'.
Meanwhile Sharif Deedar got the second position and Massoud Hamnawa stood third.
The competitors were those who had participated in the annual singing competition called ‘Afghan Star', a show run by Tolo TV.
Afghan Star is the first singing competition programme that started
airing music competitions among youths in 2005 to discover new Afghan
music talents.
It is the most famous programme in Afghanistan aired by Tolo TV.
Tolo TV is a top television network in Afghanistan that airs entertainment programmes and news from all over the world.
Afghan Star is a programme that gives a new hope for a modern
Afghanistan, a country in which only in the past few years people are
allowed to express their feelings through music.
A documentary film about Afghan Star won two important awards in the
"Sundance Film Festival" held in the United States' Utah state in June,
2009.
The film produced by "Kaboora Production", a private Afghan Media
Company in Afghanistan, explained the story of four young Afghan
artists, two men and two women.
The film shows the competition among these artists in the Afghan Star
show, of whom the best singer reaches the finals through free voting by
their fans.
In a traditional and conservative Islamic society like Afghanistan in
which Taliban are still a big threat, and even holding music and dance
programmes are prohibited in some areas and people can face death
threats for it, holding programmes is a revolution.
