Senate Democrats have pushed through a rules change that limits the ability of Republican senators to block judicial and executive branch nominees. Under the new rules, the majority will need only 51 votes -- not 60 -- to approve a nominee. The new rule does not apply to Supreme Court nominations. Republicans have warned that the change will be devastating to the Senate's traditions and will allow any future majority to force through unpopular nominations. |
