The Afghan National Cricket Team defeated Papua New Guinea in its third match of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) World T20 Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

Just a day before, the Afghan team defeated Scotland in its second match of the tournament, after losing to the Netherlands in its first match on Friday. Afghanistan was one of the favorites going into the tournament.
Papua New Guinea chose to bat first after winning the toss, and set a target of 167 runs in 20 overs. The Afghan batsmen then made 69 runs in seven overs off the last ball of the match, with the Afghan captain Mohammad Nabi remaining unbeaten on 36 off 22 balls.
Afghanistan is set to face off against Bermuda on Wednesday.
The World 20 Qualifiers, from which six of the best 16 teams competing will progress to the main tournament in Bangladesh next year, is scheduled to take place from November 15 to November 30.
The teams have been divided into two groups, with the top side from each progressing automatically to the World T20 without having to appear in the final of the qualifiers.
Afghanistan is in Group B of the tournament, along with Bermuda, Denmark, the Netherlands, Nepal, Kenya, Papua New Guinea and Scotland.
The second placed team from group A will play the third from group B and vice-versa, the winners of which will continue on to the World T20 in Bangladesh.
The losers of the third-second place matches will await the winners of matches between the fourth and fifth placed teams from both groups for a second shot at qualifying.
The two winners of these matches will be the fifth and sixth placed sides to join the 10 headed for the World T20 next year.
